Fed: UV forecasts available on internet

The weather bureau is joining the fight against skin cancer with daily internet updates
of ultraviolet radiation levels across Australia.

The Bureau of Meteorology's website now shows daily graphs for each of Australia's
capitals and Alice Springs -- as well as forecasts for a number of regional centres.

The graphs show when solar UVB radiation is expected to be at danger level.

The bureau warns just 12 minutes' exposure can be enough to cause sunburn and skin damage.

The Cancer Council of Australia says many people still wrongly judge their need for
sun protection according to temperature -- not realising UV level can reach extreme
on cool or cloudy summer days.
