The Victorian premier STEVE BRACKS has officially opened the 1.6 kilometre Domain tunnel
in Melbourne.

The tunnel, part of the $2 billion City Link project, connects the Monash Freeway to
the Westgate Freeway.

The Premier and Transport Minister PETER BATCHELOR led a cavalcade of 100 cars, winners
of a competition to be the first through the tunnel, along the newly-opened route.

Transurban chief executive officer LAURIE COX says the tunnel would reduce travel times
for westbound commuters from 20 minutes to 90 seconds.
