Vic: Man slashed after fight over cigarette

A man's in a Melbourne hospital with severe cuts .. after being slashed during a fight
over a cigarette.

The 38-year-old man was approached by another man who asked him for a smoke last night
in inner suburban East Caulfield.

Police say the man refused and after a verbal argument the attacker produced a knife
and slashed the victim across the left forearm.

The attacker fled the scene in a car and was last seen travelling west on Sir John
Monash Drive toward Dandenong Road.
